Bidding ended. Lot is unsold.

 (c. 1794-1855) executed in 1992 after an original, oil on canvas, 75cm x 63cm

Major William Hodgson Cadogan (formerly Hodgson) was the son of Richard Hodgson of the East India Company. In 1825 Hodgson married Sarah Cadogan (bef. 1810-1874), daughter of Ward Cadogan (bef. 1772-1833), in Gretna, Scotland. Upon his father-in-law's death in 1833 William Hodgson inherited his estates and changed his surname to Hodgson-Cadogan. Included in this was the medieval monastery Brinkburn Priory, in Northumberland, which was restored by William and Sarah's son Cadogan Hodgson Cadogan (1827-1886) between 1858 and 1867. Brinkburn was then passed to C.H. Cadogan's daughter Eleanor Fenwick (bef. 1852-1930).
