Lot 580

A PAIR OF FINE CAST IRON GARDEN URNS,

Measurements: click here
Estimate: £800 - £1,200
Hammer price: £700
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

Third quarter 19th century, of squat Campana form, each with twin handles cast as foliate festooned maidens rising from scrolled strapwork, the waisted bodies each with applied relief cast maidens' masks in oval reserves, with guilloche cast socles and square bases

CONDITION:

The urns bear the usual minor scuffs and knocks overall consistent with age and use but are in perfectly usable order. There is surface oxidisation, but absolutely no loss of integrity to the structure. There are also minor casting inconsistencies -two or three small holes and gaps where the molten metal didn't properly fill the mould. These are entirely insignificant.
