Hammer price: £12,000
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

circa 1770, the shield backs and serpentine front seats with later yellow velvet coverings, the camel back toprails with central anthemia cresting flanked by trailed bellflowers in relief; the shoulders, scrolled armrest terminals, arm rest supports and fluted front legs all finely carved with acanthus, with swagged paterae to the front rails,

Height 96cm
Width 67cm

The chairs bear the usual very minor knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and normal use. The carved decoration is of a very high quality and is in good order throughout.

Both toprail crestings have at some point broken away and been refixed into position.

There are very minor traces of wood worm, now apparently long dead.

The fabric coverings are of course 20th century. They are a little stained and marked in places overall.

The chairs could well once have been gilded or painted, but if this is the case there is no trace of any decorative surface anywhere in them.

It is fair to state that the chairs in good condition overall.
