Estimate: £300 - £600
Hammer price: £300
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.
circa 1760, the hinged top with radiating veneers, a brass swing handle at each end, the four straight legs with foliate carved knees,
Height 65cm
Width 66cm

The object bears the usual minor knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.

Water stains to the top. Fading in colour in places overall. Two or three minor losses to veneers. Polish residue in places to the timber, near the brass bands.

Front handle probably a replacement.

The cellaret lifts off its oval stand. The legs are fixed to the oval stand by means of tongue and slot. One is loose and comes out very easily, but only when the whole thing is lifted off the ground. When the item is in place, on the floor, gravity holds the leg in place and all is perfectly stable.

Minor traces of now extinct woodworm to underside.
