A LATE LOUIS XV CARVED AND PAINTED WOOD FAUTEUIL,

Note: Jean-Nicolas Blanchard was recognised Maitre in 1771, and it is unlikely that his work prior to that year would have been stamped. He also took his late brother Sylvain's workshop over that year, located in the Rue de Cléry under the "White Cat" sign. In time, Blanchard became a supplier to the Palace of Versailles and acquired an enviable reputation for the quality of his output. He adorned his works with finely executed flowers, foliage, garlands, knots of ribbons and acanthus leaves, work that was recognised as having finesse without being overly done, as in this example
