Lot 193

A REGENCY DWARF OPEN BOOKCASE, IN THE MANNER OF GILLOWS,

Condition Report: click here
Estimate: £500 - £1,000
Hammer price: £3,400
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

circa 1815, the crossbanded top with rounded front corners, above a frieze drawer and open shelves, (the later doors now removed), flanked by fluted three-quarter pilasters to turned feet, 88cm high x 92cm wide x 40cm deep

The item bears the usual minor scuffs and knocks overall consistent with age and use.

There are four holes to the top -a pair at each side which may have been for fixing a superstructure in place. There are also screw holes to the inside edges of the sides which presumably once held doors. Whether or not the missing superstructure and doors were original to the piece in the first place is debateable.

Splits to the sides.
