Note: An example of this model cast by Barbedienne in 1900 is illustrated in M. Poletti & A. Richarme, 'Barye Catalogue Raisonné, Univers de Bronze', Paris, 2000, page 187. It was cast by Barbedienne, who bought the original moulds from the Barye workshop sale and utilised them from 1877 until 1925.

last quarter 19th century, naturalistically modelled, the rectangular base signed BARYE in the maquette and inscribed for the founder F.BARBEDIENNE, FONDEUR, PARIS, 23cm high x 39cm long 

The bronze is in good order overall, with a dark, mostly black patina, rubbed to a lighter hue at exposed extremities.
