Note: John Herbert the younger, apprenticed at Gillows in 1820, became a freeman of the Lancaster cabinet-maker's Guild in 1829. See Susan E. Stuart, 'Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730- 1840', Antique Collectors' Club, Vol II, p248 for further detail about the Herberts' work at Gillows.
