Three cabinet makers working for Gillows bore the name James Hartley. The first was apprenticed in 1746, and the second (almost certainly related) was apprenticed in 1791. The wardrobe offered here is therefore almost certainly the work of the third James Hartley who is known to have been making furniture for the firm by October 1848. |
