A REGENCY ROSEWOOD WHATNOT, PROBABLY BY GILLOWS,
Note: |
Given the whatnot's very close similarity to examples known to be by Gillow, as well as the very fine quality touches such as the extremely sharp turning and the shaved back top edges of the drawer sides to enable smoother fitting, it is certainly attributable to Gillow. Priest of Blackfriars was presumably the retailer, and it is perhaps not coincidental that other items that have appeared at auction in the past, bearing the Priest stamp, are also very much of Gillows type, both in style and quality |
