A GEORGE IV MAHOGANY BREAKFAST TABLE, BY GILLOWS,

Condition Report: click here
Estimate: £800 - £1,600
Hammer price: £1,000
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

circa 1825, the rectangular top with ovolo moulded edges, hinged on a block stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER, with gilt brass securing mechanism, on a knopped, waisted and lobed stem to four hipped, splayed and reeded legs, with gilt brass caps and castors,  72cm high, the top 122 x 91cm

The table bears the usual knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use. There are old and polish filled scratches to the table top in places overall. The bearers to the underside have nine drilled holes which are not original, and yet bearers top and base are all as they should be. The tilt lock mechanism works well, gilt elements are rather worn in places. Otherwise good order overall.
