A VERY FINE REGENCY MAHOGANY PEMBROKE TABLE, FIRMLY ATTRIBUTABLE TO GILLOWS

early 19th century, the rectangular top with twin drop leaves and reeded edging, a panel drawer to one end flanked by subsidiary panels, above knop turned, waisted and reeded legs tapering to brass caps and castors, 72cm high x 110cm long (opened) x 73cm wide

Note: This table corresponds with the pattern illustrated in Gillow's General Sketch Book, 344/144, p.11 and to examples supplied in 1811 to Tatton Park, Cheshire. (See N.Goodison & J.Hardy, Gillows at Tatton Park, Furniture History, 1970, pp.28, 30,32 and 35, pl.16b).

Similar tables include an example attributed to Gillows, sold Christie's, London, 24 January 2008, lot 256, and another example by Richard Wilcock for Gillows, circa 1813, supplied for the Centre Bedroom, North, Hackwood Park, sold in the same rooms, 19 November 2009, lot 12. In total Gillows produced four tables of this model for Hackwood including another Pembroke table by Wilcock for Gillows also supplied to William Powlett in 1813 for the South West Bedroom at Hackwood Park, Hampshire, (see: Christie's house sale 20-22 April 1998, lot 370,
