A WILLIAM AND MARY OAK SMALL CHEST OF DRAWERS

17th century, the square top above three drawers, each with geometric moulded panelling, on block feet, 71cm high; 66cm wide; 52cm deep

The chest bears the usual minor knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use. 

Despite having mildew spots overall, it has a 'clean' feel and might have had an overhaul with a restorer at some point in the 20th century. Some elements might be later replacements, like the outer edges of the top, but if so any replacements have been conducted sympathetically and are not obvious to us. 

Certainly the locks are all later, and each has a panel of wood in front of it on the drawer front which is probably later too. 

Handles are later replaced.

The sides of the drawers are grooved for the runners, rather than sitting atop the runners. They operate smoothly.
