AN IMPORTANT MAHOGANY CIGAR BARREL HUMIDOR
16.5cm high, presented by the Partagas Factory,Havana to Prime Minister Fidel Castro Ruz on December 22nd 1961. The humidor commemorates the Campana Nacional de Alfabetizacion en Cuba, a year long campaign to abolish illiteracy in Cuba after the revolution. Che Guevara called 1961 the year of Education and the project lifted Cuba's literacy rate to 96%, the highest in the world at the time.

The lid carries a veneered panel with dedication from Partagas Factory to Fidel Castro to celebrate Cuba's rich cigar history. Castro has written in strong ink his own dedication "Los Tabaqueros Son Espiritu y Grandeza de Cuba" (The tobacco plantation workers are the spirit and strength of Cuba). An early official cigar humidor ,presented by one of Cuba's oldest Cigar factories to Fidel Castro Ruz.
