Provenance: Acquired from Ernest Brown and Phillips, The Leicester Galleries, 1st January 1930 by Kerrison Preston, Esq. for £100, with accompanying receipt of sale and further correspondence between Preston and Ernest Brown & Phillips, and a letter to Preston from the Artist's widow, thanking him for his appreciation of the work and suggesting the idea of the analogy between a railway journey and the journey of life "an old sailor dreaming of the past - the children impatient"
and thence by descent.
