A FINE GOTHIC POLYCHROMED WALNUT FIGURE OF THE PRAYING VIRGIN

Upper Rhine/Burgundy, circa 1480-1500, with serene expression, the face and drapery retaining much of the original polychrome and gilt, the finely carved hair cascading down the shoulders, 89cm high excluding the later octagonal plinth base, 95cm high overall

In good country house condition retaining much of the original gilding and polychrome  but with some losses and refreshing. A small cracks at the top of the viewing right shoulder. A few minor chips to the face. Some old wood worm holes on the viewing left side of the figure.
