A vase ovale uni of similar arrangement (in the Royal Collection), retaining its cover and fitted with finely chased gilt bronze mounts, some of which were added in the early 19th century, was bought by Francois Benois from the widow of Quentin Crauford in Paris in May 1820 (RCIN 10889 https://www.rct.uk/collection/search#/1/collection/10889/vase-ovale-uni)

There are the inevitable minor dents, marks and scratches consistent with age and use.  As stated in the catalogue, the cover is lacking. The brass liner appears to be original and has some old green ‘oasis’ deposits inside. The gilding on the socle has almost entirely rubbed off, the gilding on the square plinth is also extensively worn. The ropetwist is brightly gilded - may be a 19th century addition, along with the bleu turquin marble at the base. The ceramic vase is fixed to the metal socle by means of a threaded screw with a securing nut inside the vase in the form of a sunflower.
