There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, scratches and shrinkage cracks consistent with age and use. The castors are later and are attached to a 2 cm. thick piece of oak. In total the height of this addition (oak piece and castor) is 5.3cm. The wooden knob handles are later additions, and there is clear evidence of earlier (probably brass 'swan-neck') handles. The lock in the top drawer is certainly a replacement and the locks in the three lower drawers are likely to be replaced as well. Three compartment covers from the top drawer are missing. There is a crack to the front right foot. The inside of the back panel and the underside have been painted. The lowest drawer has some old evidence of mould, no doubt from have stood in a cold, humid room for a number of years. The chest is wonderful quality and a good colour. It requires some minor restoration and light cleaning to return it to its former glory. In good 'country house' condition.
