Margaret Sarah Carpenter was born in Salisbury in 1793, she went to London in 1814 and soon established herself as a leading and fashionable portrait painter. Her pictures were greatly influenced by the works of Sir Thomas Lawrence suggesting she may have been one of his pupils. The inscribed date on this work may have been Henrietta's birthday.

This attractive painting has been relined.

Examination under UV light reveals slight additional 'touching up' painting to face and neck, together with slight additional painting vertically to the top of the painting.

The frame is scuffed and worn and has two chips to top, which have been painted over in non-matching matt paint.
