Oscar
Gerald Payne was born in Piddletrenthide, Dorset, in 1891. At the time of the
1911 census, he was working as an 'Assistant Grocer' and living at 11 Cross
Street, Tenbury, Worcestershire. By 1913 he was back living in the Dorset area;
he married Matilda Harriet Thomas in 1915.
A
member of the 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, Oscar was tragically killed in
action on the 14th of December 1917. He was laid to rest in Mory Abbey Military
Cemetery.
