A SHAKO PLATE WORN BY PRIVATE ROBERT LEGG OF THE 40TH FOOT AT WATERLOO
The plate is very toned and is mounted in a Victorian-era frame, probably framed circa 1880.
The reverse of the frame has the following written on it. ' From the home of Edward Legg from Tolpuddle (who gave evidence against the Dorchester Labourers in 1834) This badge was worn by my grandfather Robert Legg at Waterloo, to be given to Edward’.
Robert Legg served with the 1st Battalion 40th Regiment of Foot at Waterloo with Captain S. Streton's Company.
