Robert ‘Robin’
Buxton’s copy of the first 8 chapters of Seven Pillars of Wisdom which served
as an elaborate prospectus for “Cranwell” edition showing format, paper and
type. Fewer than 100 copies were circulated to friends. The first chapter in
the prospectus was later suppressed by Lawrence on the advice of Bernard Shaw.
*Robin Buxton served
in the Imperial Camel Corps and spent several weeks operating behind enemy
lines in the Arab Revolt, fighting in the unit which captured Mudawara in
August 1918. After the war he became Lawrence’s bank manager and was involved
in the financing of Seven Pillars of Wisdom.
