TWO CHELSEA CHEYNE PORCELAIN FIGURES OF ACTRESSES

modelled by Gwendoline Parnell (1878 – 1957), inscribed 1923 and 1924 respectively, 18cm high

Note: These figures, named after the road in Chelsea where they were made, are from the same workshops as Charles Vyce, with some of the Cheyne figures exhibited at the Leicester Galleries in June 1927.

Neither of these figures appear to have been fired very well, with neither base level.

The blue dress figure has plaster reinforcement behind her white apron repair to the blue skirt close to the apron. The left forearm appears to have become detached and restored.

The orange figure has a firing crack to the central rear support, a restored right arm and a hairline crack to skirt.

Both figures have crazed glazes.
