The glass and silver mounted example is largely good. There is some evidence of wear around the foot. The is a small mark to the top lid above the hinge. There are small chips to the inside of the mouth. The cork is showing signs of deterioration.

The 'compass' example shows signs of age and use. The bottom half, where covered, has a brighter colour. There is wear around the hinge to the lid and deterioration to the cork inside. The compass would require restoration. Inscribed to the base and the front. The later sleeve is OK, showing signs of age and use.
