A CHARLES II SILVER TANKARD,

date letter 1683, Mark of Thomas Cory, London (active 1677-1683), the circular hinged cover with armorial, the body later decorated and chased with scrolling foliage, around a central cartouche depicting two men seated at a tavern table playing cards, with a woman standing behind the table; the interior with various later inscriptions; 20 cm. high

Provenance: John Kipling, Esq. d. 23 August 1830, bequeathed to the Six Clerks in Chancery; by whom presented to David Drew, Esq. on the retirement of the Six Clerks of the High Court of Chancery, 27 October 1842

In good overall condition. The decoration to the body is a later addition to the tankard in the first half of the 19th century. The base has had some possible re-welding. Otherwise there are no other obvious signs of damage or restoration (please see additional images).
