Provenance: Purchased from Beaux Arts Gallery, London, W.1, 18th September 1964 for £12. With receipt of purchase and handwritten note from Helen Lessore both pasted verso, together with a note from McEvoy's daughter Anna reading "This red chalk drawing of a mother and child was in the portfolio of my father, Ambrose McEvoy, containing drawings done when he was at the Slade School of Art"
