Jack Merriott (1901-1968) is a renowned painter, illustrator and poster designer. He studied at both Croyden and St Martins School of Art. He was a member and the first president of the Wapping Group of Artists. He exhibited at the RA and his work is now held by several world famous galleries. Merriott was the official artist in Westminster Abbey for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Amongst other honours, he also became Vice-president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. His designs for The British Railways and The General Post Office are instantly recognisable; including the scenes from Cornwall, where he spent his later years.
