John Vause was born in Wednes, Lancashire, in 1874; he attested at Warrington on 29th September 1898. 

Vause served during the Boer War and was wounded on 27th February 1900 Pieter's Hill. He survived the war and was transferred to the reserves in February 1906, before being discharged in September 1910. 

Medals and clasps confirmed on the rolls and in his service papers.
