During the
Great War, he served with the 1st/16th Bn of the London Regiment. He landed on
the Western Front on the 1st of November 1914 and served there until the 24th
of September 1915. He was commissioned into the East Surrey Regiment, with his
appointment as Second Lieutenant being announced on the 27th of November
1915.
Comben never
served overseas again, which explains the pair being named to his previous rank
and regt. Sadly on the 25th of April 1924, Arthur died, and his mother applied
for a pension. It is unclear if this was granted or if his death was
war related.
