Perkins earned the GSM while serving with 'B' company 2nd Bn Lincolnshire Regiment during the Arab revolt in Palestine.
During the Battle of France, Perkins, still serving with the 2nd Bn, was wounded and taken prisoner between the 10th of May and the 16th June 1940. He was held in camp 3444 for the remainder of the war.
