David Michie
Straiton was a Groom from Berwick on Tweed. He joined the Royal Tank Corps
(11th Hussars) in 1925.
He served
with them in Palestine, earning the GSM Palestine. During the Second World war,
he served with the Derbyshire Yeomanry, Royal Armoured Corps. Wounded in North
Africa on the 5th of April 1943, he was sadly killed in action at Monte Cassino
on the 16th of April 1944. he was laid to rest in Cassino Cemetery.
