late Edo or early Meiji period, one side decorated with a scene of Prince Shotoku hiding from two warriors, the other with a mounted warrior and a foot soldier, 10cm high

Provenance: Christie's, New York, 16 December 1993, lot 114. Then purchased from Bonhams, Fine Japanese Art, 05/11/2020, Lot 38, £1500. Now the property of a deceased Estate from West Dorset.

Lacking drawstring/cord. A few very minor losses to the lacquer decoration. There is wear visible to the inside were the cases meet. Otherwise good.
