A LARGE CHINESE GILT-BRONZE AND CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL TRIPOD CENSER

probably Ming or early Qing, with a compressed body decorated with taotie masks, scrolls and stylised leaves on a turquoise ground, with zoomorphic loop handles, the lid with four shaped panels containing lotus scrolls beneath multi-stemmed Lingzhi mushrooms, on three block feet headed by gilt bronze Buddhistic lions heads, 41.5cm high

Provenance: The collection of General Charles H.T. Collis (1838-1902), and thence by descent.

In attractive country house condition with wear to the gilt bronze mount and typical pitting to the cloisonné enamel. No obvious damage or obvious filler repair to the cloisonné decoration. Minor losses to the enamel on the handles and some crazing.
