The brooch is in very good condition, there is no obvious significant damage or evidence of significant repair. The enamel is crisp and bright; there are small areas of losses, namely the tip of the beak and above the eye, there are some very small chips/losses to the edge of the neck. The head of the pheasant appears to be securely attached to the body of the brooch, though does feel slightly loose. All diamonds are present with the larger stones facing up bright, white and lively; there are some slight inclusions visible, but overall hey are bright and mostly clean. The small rose cut diamonds are slightly darker in colour, though catch the light well. The illusion feather design to the gold work remains crisp and the feet appear free from damage with all claws present. The pin is present, the hinge stiff, the safety catch is a little loose. There is an inventory/catalogue number scratched into reverse of the body of the pheasant.
