The brooch is in fairly good condition, though does display some wear and losses. One diamond is missing and some diamonds are later replacements and of differing cuts (two diamonds are brilliant cut), although the stones appear to be secure in their setting it is likely that the claws/setting would benefit from attention. The diamonds making up the wings and thorax are grey and flinty, displaying numerous inclusions as well as some nibbling/chipping. The principal diamond is slightly dull and has a yellow tint, it also displays several inclusions and has a slight clouded appearance. The pin is present though the hinge is slightly loose, it folds securely into c clasp, a small loop has been attached to the frame for the addition of a safety chain. The brooch has a gross weight of c. 4.4g.
