Sir Frederick Lewis Maitland was an officer in the Royal Navy during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The most famous event of his career occurred when Napoleon Bonaparte surrendered to him onboard HMS Bellerophon on the 15th July 1815, marking the final end of the Napoleonic Wars.

This historically important item is in very good overall condition. With no obvious signs of damage or restoration. There is some deuteriation to the paper label on the inside of the lid consistent with age (please see additional images)
