A CHELSEA WHITE SLENDER OCTAFOIL BEAKER

c.1745-49, the wave and everted lip with four espalier tea plants in relief, 7.4cm high

Provenance: Anthony Collection, Stockspring Antiques, June 7th – 14th 2017, no. 31A.

This is an English adaptation of a blanc de chine beaker originating from rococo repoussé silver. The tea plant may partly be derived from an engraving in Nienhoff 's Embassy to China of 1665.
