Reginald Allison Bumstead was born in Maindee, Monmouthshire, in 1889. he attested on the 7th of September 1914 in Durham, joining the Royal Field Artillery.

He landed in France on the 20th of July 1915. Bumstead survived the war and was transferred to the reserves in May 1919.
