The Cross was instituted in 1940 for members of the Italian Royal Air Force who had served in the Aegean. The Cross was manufactured by F. M. Lorioli Fratelli of Milan and appears in their 1943 publication ‘Le Forze Armate nelle coniazioni dello Stabilimento Artistico F. M. Lorioli’. The Cross is extremely rare.
