A 19TH CENTURY ‘GRAND TOUR’ SIENNA MARBLE INKSTAND

modelled as a Roman sarcophagus, the three wells with face mask covers, the stand with paw feet on black marble, 15cm high x 23cm wide x 9cm deep

Provenance: The Estate of the late John Rollo Somerset-Paddon, formerly of Chalk Newton House, Maiden Newton, Dorset, thence by descent.

This inkstand has chipping and losses to the central cover, there is one piece detached and present. Both other covers have small chips to the interior rims. There is chipping and old repairs to a ring handle. There are small chips to the rim of the trough. There are surface scratches evident, notably a long scratch to one side, and scratching to the base of the trough and the tops of the lions paw pedestals.
