Luigi Bienaime
Luigi Bienaime was a trained sculptor of the Neoclassical school who studied in Italy under Bertel Thorvaldsen (d. 1844). Throughout his career he travelled to St. Petersburg where he received numerous commissions from the Russian aristocracy. His finished Relining Bacchante was finalised in 1838 and was gifted to the Hermitage Museum by 1859. Further versions were distributed around the royal houses of Europe. See another example in the Latvian National Museum of Art from the Bukaisi Manor House and the collection of Prince Alexander Lieven.
