AFTER CLODION (1738-1814), A PAIR OF ORMOLU AND WHITE MARBLE CANDLESTICKS

19th century, modelled with male and female seated putti holding leaf encrusted goblets, the girl with cornucopia, the boy astride shell and dolphin, the fluted marble columns with leaf mounts, each 27cm high x 10cm diameter

Provenance: The Estate of the late Sir George Dowty (1901-1975, inventor, engineer and businessman) and Lady Marguerite Dowty; thence by family descent.

These candlesticks are crisply cast. The goblet sconces have internal screw threads indicating perhaps that once held other fitments. 

There is some loss of mounts to marble together with minor chipping and wear to marble.
