signed and dated 1833 to the reverse, on a socle base, 72cm high x 55cm wide

Note: William Wilberforce (24 August 1759 – 29 July 1833) was a British politician, philanthropist and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. This bust is after Samuel Joseph’s statue of Wilberforce currently located in Westminster Abbey. The portrait is derived from Jean-Antoine Houdon’s representation of Voltaire finished in 1781.

The bust shows the signs and wear of weathering. It was recently rediscovered and cleaned. There are chips/losses to the socle base. Marks and imperfections to the marble. A few small chips apparent. Lines/veins of marble visible to the reverse.
