Provenance: The candlestick was purchased from an online dealer, 17th February 2018. Both the ashtray and barrel were purchased form The Hayhurst Collection in 2016.

Note: HMS Spartiate was broken up in 1857, this date is commensurate with the age of the candlestick. Warspite was a Queen Elizabeth Class battleship launched in 1915 that served in both World Wars. She was broken up after running aground under tow off Cornwall in 1947. RMS Mauretania was launched in 1906 for the Cunard line, she was then the world’s largest ship. She was scrapped from 1935 onwards.
