Emma Bennett depicts subjects familiar to traditional 17th century still life painting, such as flowers, fruit and game in combination with imagery derived from film and photography including, for example, fire, water, and interior objects such as beds, lamps, table tops and mirrors. These potentially incongruous figurative elements are united within Bennett’s compositions and are set against monochromatic black grounds.
