A COPTIC MANUSCRIPT PRAYER SCROLL

in red and black script on sheep skin written in Ge’ez, the ancient liturgical language of Ethiopia, the heading painted with two warriors either side a processional cross, 12.5cm wide

Provenance: With the scroll is an old label signed by Professor Wright, of the British Museum. They refer to the scroll as a ‘Volume of Faith’.

This is approx. 240cm long. 

The vellum is creased and dry commensurate with age,usage and storage.

The colours are vibrant and strong but more faded on the edges (the red is worn in places), there is also some general staining.

The leather scroll turners/holders are faded, stained and with loose stitching.
