A SET OF SIX METAL RUMBLER BELLS

each marked “RW” for Robert Wells of Tockenham, Wiltshire, circa 1830, 9cm diameter (six mounted on two oak boards)

It is believed that these rumbler bells were fixed to the harnesses of heavy horses pulling wagons, which were still used on the Estate at Ven House up until the Second World War.

They are mounted on wooden boards which have splintered with age, and the screws have rusted.
