The chamfered panel behind glass with scattered retouching evident on the girl's face, on her hand and along the line of a vertical crack through the panel which passes approximately 2cm to the left of the girl's left eye.
Inspection of the reverse of the chamfered panel indicates a repaired split. There are various old labels including one for Sotheby & Co. The painting was previously attributed to Rembrandt.
The giltwood frame is in attractive country house condition with some losses and damage to gilding consistent with age.
