Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

Provenance: With a brass plate inscribed “MBM” suggesting that this bed belonged to Mervyn Bradford Medlycott, who used it on board ship when he served in the Royal Navy in the 1870’s.

Note: Thomas Butler of Catherine Street, Strand, London, is recorded in Trade Directories of the period as operating from this address between 1805 and 1809.

In good country house condition and of sturdy construction.

The caning is in good condition overall with some sun fading and wear commensurate with age.

The drapes are sun bleached and stained.

There is a possible repair to the top baluster supporting the bed to the far-right corner, and some old light worming.

Please note we do not have images of the bed dismantled.

As a campaign bed it is naturally meant to be ‘portable’.

The top comes off as one section and we believe it may be a later replacement as it is unusual in shape.

The bottom frame appears to fold in half
