A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE/ROSE VASES AND COVERS

Qing, enamelled in polychrome with cartouches of figures, a deer and a goat, in flower-filled gardens and subsidiary cartouche-shaped panels containing flowers, on a rich blue ground overpainted in gilt with prunus blossom on a cracked-ice ground, the flattened dome lids with conforming decoration and Buddhistic lion finials, the bases unglazed, 60cm high (2)

Both have general wear to the enamels and gilding throughout, commensurate with age.

 

One lid to a vase has stapled repairs and nicks to the edge. The karashishi finial has a small chip to its jaw and has been repaired along its body.

Inside there is an extensive network of repairs with stapling, and staining to cracks, evident to the front of vase and across the three decorative cartouches.

 

The second vase has a large hairline crack down one side of the body, passing to the other side (and apparent from the outside). There are noticeable chips/losses to the green enamels around the cartouches.

There are staples to the lid and chips to the edges. The karashishi finial has cracks on the face, body and legs
